The expo, held at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, consisted of 148 organisations ranging from finance and employment services to advocacy and support services.
Carer Gateway, was showcasing advocacy and support services and received a considerable number of stall traffic, with attendees wanting to know more about our services and how to access them.
We had a wonderful group of volunteers tend to our Carer Gateway stall, including Anita, Isabelle and Georgia from the Merri Health Carer Engagement team, Afshan from the Merri Marketing and Communications team, Richard from Alfred Health Carer Gateway and Laura from Uniting Carer Gateway.
The event was undoubtedly a success as one of the attendees to visit our stall mentioned that they had tried to visit earlier in the day, but the stall was too busy. We also ran out of Carer Gateway merchandise halfway through day one and had to rush to make quick arrangements.
On the Saturday, Georgia and Anita from the Carer Gateway team took to the stage to speak about our services available for carers.
It was inspiring speaking to carers of people with disabilities, other organisations’ representatives and attendees of the expo. Many people referred to our services as a “niche service that is very much needed.”
We even had Tinker Bell make us a flower with our brand colours!
If you couldn’t attend this time, there is another Disability Expo coming up in November. We are yet to decide whether we will be participating or not – watch this space.
