COVID-19 affecting respite

The Carer Gateway team regret that disruptions to some services may occur as COVID-19 continues to impact our ability to safely deliver carer support.

Currently, planned and emergency respite support is significantly reduced.

This is due to the sudden growth in case numbers which have substantially increased requests for respite; and put widespread strain on staffing levels. Providing respite for COVID positive carers particularly requires additional planning and resources.

While we try to meet your respite needs, please be aware that it may not always be possible to deliver them at the time requested. Please be patient and flexible with our staff as they discuss what supports may be available to you.

Carer Gateway offers other online and phone-based services such as counselling, carer coaching, online forums and groups that may help. We are also providing temporary access to practical financial support packages to ease hardship through this time.

If you would like to speak to the Carer Gateway team to find out more, please call us on 1800 422 737 or request a call back or email via www.carergateway.gov.au

We appreciate your understanding during this difficult and uncertain time. Like you, we hope things improve soon and that you, your family and friends are safe and well.
