Social connection for people over 65

Social Support Program 2 1

Published January 10 2024

What do you get with spring weather, sunshine and enthusiasm for growing plants? A group of Social Support Program (SSP) clients off for a day at Tesselaar’s Tulip Farm in the Yarra Ranges!

SSP is a friendly and fun space for people to make new friends and socialise with like-minded people based on your own interests and hobbies.

The trip was one of the highlights of the year as people were able to share their passion for plants and make new friends along the way.

I connect with other people, and I have made new friends – that I would not have met if I didn’t come to these programs.  The staff listen and respect me and welcome me.  I also meet people my age.  I get new experiences and go to new places that I have never been to – even though I have always lived in Melbourne.

It is like a holiday for me. My weekend is my Monday outing – I can talk to my family about what I have done. When I am out, I forget all about my problems” said Rose, Merri Health SSP client.

If you want to meet new people or go to some interesting places, without having to drive yourself, we currently have over 12 programs that you can join.
