Today, on January 26, Merri Health acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which we live.

We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future, and acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are hurting and mourning on this day.

We acknowledge that January 26 is not an inclusive day for everyone and advocate to #ChangeTheDate to respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities strong sense of survival, strength and resilience.

As a health organisation, we are committed to closing the health gap that exists between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and non-Indigenous communities.

We recognise the significant and ongoing impacts of colonisation on health, opportunities and equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Let’s work together to make January 26 a day that everyone can celebrate, click here to find out how you can support the #ChangeTheDate movement.
