Tackling violence against women and gender equity through community sports and leisure.
What is it?
We’re Game! (WG) is working toward gender equality by supporting sports and leisure clubs and centres across Merri-bek (formally Moreland) to plan and take action against violence and inequity. We will bring together the sport and recreation, health, and primary prevention sectors with local communities to strengthen and build respectful, inclusive, and equitable sports settings for our diverse population. Working together can end violence against women and provide safe places for everyone to enjoy being active.

More information
We’re Game! is a collaborative initiative between Merri Health, YMCA – Active Moreland, Tennis Victoria, Coburg Football Club, and other local sports and leisure settings.
We’re Game:
- brings together partners to build capacity and harnesses collaboration to drive progress
- supports local sports and leisure settings to undertake a gender equity audit and to develop an action plan to progress gender equality; and
- works with local communities to design and implement programs and initiatives that will meet the projects’ goals
The project adopts Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Guidelines for Preventing Violence Against Women: Taking Action Through Community Sport. It draws on the enormous capacity local sporting clubs have to influence positive behaviours and attitudes around gender equality, respectful relationships and the prevention of gender-based violence.
We’re Game has recently been evaluated by researchers at RMIT University and shows we're off to a great start. Read the full report here.
The project has been made possible with funding from the Victorian Government.
